Before work started
This garden space was pretty uninspiring. Kim and Simon wanted a garden which was low maintenance but still inviting to sit out in. A good size seating area was also in the client brief
Contemporary and Stylish!
This plot was a very awkward triangular shape. By designing the deck to sit at a 45 degree angle to the house, the space seems twice as large and merges the boundary between house and garden. This has also been achieved by building the deck at the same height as the step out from the kitchen.
Low maintenance planting
The planting in front of the deck of Miscanthus sinensis 'Kleine Fontane', Phormium cookianum 'Cream Delight' and Astelias will form a veil through to the rest of the garden, making the deck area a more intimate space. By choosing the right plants and planting through a membrane with slate covering it, we've achieved a very low maintenance garden
